Fill Me Up

If imperfect parents know how to lovingly take care of their children and give them what they need, how much more will the perfect heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit’s fullness when his children ask him.
— Luke 11:13 (TPT)
For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
— Matthew 7:8 (NIV)

Devotional:

When I first walked up Skinner Mountain in 2016, I experienced many beautiful things. I could see the scenery of the journey, spent time with my wife and my friends, and had a perfect time overall.  However, I did notice that although we were ready for the journey up the mountain (without equipment, our shoes, mosquito spray, hats, glasses, etc.), there was a slight, and everyone but me brought water bottles. I thought, “this mountain isn’t that big; I can manage without water.” Oh, how foolish I was. Twenty-five minutes and forty-three seconds into our hike, my body craved water. I mustered up that strength I had, continued walking up the mountain, and didn’t tell anyone that I was thirsty or needed water. Another 15 minutes passed, and I began to feel very light-headed; at that time, my wife (then girlfriend) noticed that I was looking a little blue and asked me if I was okay, to which I replied yes. After an hour or so, we reached the mountain’s summit. Everyone looked refreshed and excited, but I was almost passed out on the floor, trying to see how to act tough. My wife came up to me and said, hey, you don’t look so good; take some of my water. At that time, I confessed that I’d needed water from the first 25 minutes into the hike. She replied to me with something that I will never forget.  She said, “All you had to do was ask; I won’t think less of you if you need some of my water to help you make it through.”

Sometimes we go through our life journey trying to pretend we are okay when we are not. The Holy Spirit is always ready and available to assist you, but you have to ask him for help. Sometimes the resources we need are at arms reach, but our pride won’t let us see it. Today, remove your pride and ask the Holy Spirit for help because all you need to do is just ask. He won’t judge you. He has the water to get you through your journey.

Let’s Pray:

Father, I pray humbly before your presence today, asking you for water for the rest of my journey. Holy Spirit, fill me up; I depend on you today. Help me see you in the midst of my journey, and allow me to approach you for the water I desperately need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
