Self-Evaluate
I will never forget Pastor William Pabon; he was a very humble man who shepherded me in my youth; he used to say that the closer you get to the light, the more you notice your spots because the light reveals everything and exposes everything that needs to be cleaned in our lives. When we are enlightened by the truth of the Word, which begins to be revealed in our lives, we are confronted with the truth in John 8; Jesus tells us that the truth sets us free. As a psychotherapist, I can see two recurring patterns in human beings. The first is not wanting that act of analysis and evaluation; some prefer to blame everything on their parents, spouses, children, siblings, bosses, even the Pastor, the lack of money, and the government. Everyone is to blame except them; they cannot take responsibility for the mistakes they have made in their lives.
On the other hand, there is the second group; these are the ones who take responsibility for everything; it is my fault that my relationships failed; I always do everything wrong. Doesn’t Paul say he did the wrong he didn't want to do (Romans 7)? So they live saying to themselves all the time the famous adage: "Mea culpa" (my fault); they feel bad if you tell them that what happened to them was not their fault but the fault of a caregiver or anyone else. The other day I said to a young woman: "you are right to feel bad about what your aunt did to you.” You can believe that I am trying to justify her. For both groups, the advice is the same. In John 8:32, Jesus told us: and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. The truth is the confrontation with the mirror of the Word of God and the revelation of the Holy Spirit dwelling in you. I pray to God in this hour that you will set aside a moment during this day for that to become a reality for you. Let the Spirit of God lead you to every truth you have tried to hide from others and yourself, and may the grace of God sustain you to be able to process this moment, perhaps difficult for some, but necessary.
Let’s Pray
Father, thank you for your Spirit, which is my guide that leads me to a genuine encounter with you, and for this, I must evaluate myself. Still, this revelation must be led by you, not by my humanity and my carnality which leads me to self-pity and guilt, two tricks used by the enemy of my soul to destroy my relationship with you, deliver me from every Spirit of condemnation as your word says you are my Deliverer the God who fills me with grace and favor. I ask you to draw me into the truth of my relationship with you, the one you designed for us to have from the foundation of the world. Through Christ, my Lord and Savior, Amen.
