Invitational

“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
— John 4:21-26

Devotional:

Not only was Jesus intentional and incarnational, but he was invitational as well. Sometimes all we do is serve people and encourage them because we want to show them the love Jesus has for them (which is great!), but we never give them an opportunity to respond to Jesus’ invitation to life with Him. People can’t say yes to something without an invitation first! We can invite to church or an event or even out to eat, but the invitation I am referring to is inviting someone to give their whole life to Jesus. We should want our friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors to join us in Heaven!

Prayer:

  • Sometimes fear of rejection gets in the way of us making that invitation to someone. Ask God to remove that fear and remind you that your only job is to be obedient to Him.

Reflection and Response:

Who will you share the gospel with today or this week. Set a goal for yourself to share the gospel more with those around you.
