Day 2: Forgetting the Past
Good morning! Yesterday, we focused on how God declares new things. Today, we’ll take the next step: learning to let go of the past. Our scripture is Philippians 3:13-14, where Paul speaks about 'forgetting what lies behind.' Let’s dive into what this means for us today.
Scripture:
"Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:13-14
Reflection:
Paul’s words are powerful because they acknowledge a truth we all face: the past has the potential to hold us back. Whether it’s our failures or even our successes, we can get stuck looking backward instead of moving forward.
Paul wasn’t erasing his past. Instead, he chose not to let it define him. He pressed forward, focusing on the 'prize'—the upward call of God. For us, this means prioritizing God’s purposes over our regrets or past achievements.
Application:
Take a moment to reflect: What are you holding on to from the past? Is there a failure you’ve struggled to forgive yourself for? Or maybe a success that’s made you complacent?
Today, commit that thing to God. Write it down as a symbolic way of letting go. Then, spend time asking God to give you a renewed focus on His calling for your future.
Prayer:
”Father, thank You for calling us forward. Help us to let go of anything in the past that holds us back from Your purposes. Strengthen us to press forward toward the prize of Your calling, trusting that You are leading us into greater things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
